Distilled or Deionise Water
- Distilled or deionise water (H2O) is used in solution preparations for most analysis as it is depleted in interfering impurities.
- Distilled H2O is prepared by boiling water and collecting its condensate (cooled steam).
Freshly distilled H2O is free of any dissolved gases. However, once cooled and with time, will absorb gases like carbon dioxide (CO2) which may interfere was certain analysis.
- Deionised H2O is prepared through ion exchange methods.
- Both distilled or deionise H2O will have to be neutralized when added to a measured sample in the titratable acidity determination procedure.
- Distilled or deionise H2O can be sourced from most supermarkets.
