Preparation of a 0.3% volume/volume Hydrogen Peroxide (0.3% w/v H2O2)
Needs to be prepared daily as H2O2 deteriorates with time and exposure. Store in fridge.
As the accuracy of this solution is not critical, the preparation is simply a matter of diluting commercially available strengths. Safety procedures should be followed as H2O2 is a strong oxidant and quite harmful at high concentrations.
Avoid skin contact.
Preparation Example -
Your local pharmacy has sold you a solution of 130 volume (35% w/w H2O2).
As the accuracy of this solution is not critical and the concentration of 0.3 % is only to ensure an excess of H2O2, a simple dilution by a factor of 100 is adequate
Pipette 1 ml of 35% w/w H2O2into a 100ml volumetric flask and fill to the 100ml mark with distilled water.
Hint/Tip: if doing a number of SO2 analysis it will save time to add the mixed indicator and adjust to just olive/green (neutral) in bulk (see hint and tips).
