Dextrose
- The word dextrose comes from the Latin word dexter meaning "on the right"
- Dextrose is the old word for the most common and naturally occurring isomer of glucose called d-glucose.
- D-glucose, or dextrose, is an optically active isomer able to rotate plane-polarised light to the right, hence the name dextrose.
- As with glucose, dextrose is also referred to as both grape and corn sugar.
- D50 is a 50% w/v dextrose solution used used in emergency care to treat hypoglycemia and to manage coma of unknown origin.
