pH (also see pH scale and pH and SO2)
- pH is one measure of acidity.
- pH indicates the concentration of free hydrogen ions (H +) present in a solution.
- The pH scale ranges from 0 - 14. (more extreme values do lie outside this range)
A pH of -
1 - is very acid (concentrated orthophosphoric acid solution- H4PO4)
7 - is neutral (pure water - H2O)
14 - is very basic (concentrated sodium hydroxide solution- NaOH)
ie The lower the pH value the higher the free hydrogen ion concentration ([H +])
