Silver/Silver Chloride Wire

• The silver/silver chloride (Ag/AgCl) wire is constructed from a silver wire on to which is coated a layer of silver chloride (AgCl)..
  
  
• When there is an electron movement or an electron exchange , the AgCl (silver chloride) can both accept an electron or loose an electron.
  
  
• When the AgCl accepts an electron it releases a chloride ion (Cl^-) into solution
  
  
• When the AgCl looses an electron an electron is removed from the Cl^- (chloride ion) and theCl redeposits onto the silver wire, forming AgCl.
