Ion

• Ions are atoms or molecules with an extra electron or missing an electron leaving them negatively (-) or positively (+) charged respectively.
  
  
• Negatively (-ve) charged and positively (+ve) charged ions are called an anions and cations respectively.
  
  
• Ions, in solution are formed when ionic compounds have their component parts isolated by the solvent action of water
  
  
• When ions are formed in an aquaeous solution, one component borrows an electron/s from the other component making it an anion (-ve charged ion), leaving the other component as a cation ( +ve charged ion)..
