Ionic compounds
- Ionic compounds are compounds where one atom is happy to donate an electron to another atom of a different element, which inturn is happy to accept the extra electron.
- This gives the atom donating the electron a positive (+ve) charge, with the atom accepting the electron a negatively (-ve) charged. As we all know opposites attract and form a stable unit.
- In this case the -ve (negative) ion and +ve (positive) ion are attracted to each other to form a stable bond and compound called an ionic compound.
