Flow meter use instructions
1. - Remove the bobby (orange rubber teat) from the bottom of the flow meter and fill with a soapy water solution.
2. - Attach bobby with soap solution to flow meter rim as illustrated in fig 6.
3, - Attach flow meter as illustrated in fig 5, fig 6 or fig 7.
4. - Allow air to bubble through the system, substituting water in both the spherical and pear shaped flasks.
5. - By squeezing the bobby slightly, raise and introduce the soap solution to the stream of air, allowing it to form a series of soap bubbles or membranes. Once the bubbles reach the top of the flow meter column your flow meter has been primed and is ready for use.
6. - Introduce one bubble and note the time it takes to reach the 100ml mark.
7. - Increase or restrict the flow rate, using a clamp (Hoffman clamp) or small plastic tap (stopcock), so that it takes 6 seconds from the bubble/membrane formation to reach the 100ml mark
This equates to the required flow rate of 1L/min since -
100ml/6sec = 1000ml/60 sec = 1L/min.
8. - Now use this flow rate to set the water manometer for monitoring the flow rate for that particular system. (Note)
