Dilution Method
- As an example we will prepare a 0.01 M sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution by diluting a standardized 0.1 M NaOH solution by a factor of ten (10)
1. - Pipette accurately 10 ml of the 0.1 M NaOH solution into a 100 ml volumetric flask.
2. - Fill the volumetric flask up to a level close to but safely below the graduation mark..
3. - Bringing the flask and its contents up to 20oC in a hot water bath.
4. - Using a Pasteur pipette and teat or a plastic eye dropper to bring the volume up to the the graduation mark so that the bottom of the meniscus lines up with the flask's graduation mark.
5. - To ensure thorough mixing, stopper the volumetric flask and invert the flask a number of times.
6. - Pour contents into a suitable clean, dry container and label with contents (0.01M NaOH), date of preparation and name or initial of person who prepared it and stopper.
